The village
Our company is located in a small village called la Figuera. The village takes the Catalan name from this typical Mediterranean tree with wide leaves and sweet fruit, the fig tree. The winery, Ficaria, on the other side, gets its name from a play on words on the tree’s Latin name Ficus Carica.
Located 575 meters above sea level and providing wonderful views, the village is known as the sentry of el Priorat.

The village is not only exeptional for its wonderful outlook, but also for its vineyards. Besides having the advantage of being well influenced by the Mediterranean climate, the vineyards in la Figuera have other individual weather features. Thanks to its setting near the Ebro River Valley as well as the Montsant River and because of its altitude and orientation, temperatures are cold in the winter but not especially warm in the summer.
